New Sexual Harassment Duty – Collingwood Legal Masterclass

Employment Law experts Collingwood Legal invite you to an in person half-day masterclass at One Strawberry Lane, Newcastle on 25 September 2024 between 8.30am and 1.00pm. Breakfast will be provided.

The aim: to help guide your understanding of this new legal duty and what steps your organisation needs to take to be able to show compliance with the duty.

From 26 October 2024, the law concerning sexual harassment in the workplace will change substantially. The introduction of the mandatory duty on employers to prevent sexual harassment of their employees creates a stronger obligation than ever before with employers facing potential uplifts on sexual harassment compensation of up to 25% if they are found to have breached this new duty. Even employers with existing policies and experience of dealing with allegations of this kind will need to consider whether their practices will stand up to the potential of increased legal scrutiny.

The session will go through the changes in the law from October 2024 and will involve the discussion of case studies in order to aid you in the steps your organisation can take to manage sexual harassment issues in the workplace and equip you to defend Employment Tribunal claims.

The focus of the session includes:

  • Recap on the current sexual harassment laws;
  • What the law of sexual harassment will be after 26 October 2024;
  • The practical guidance from the Equality and Human Rights Commission on the duty; and
  • Tips on what employers can do to comply with the duty and to respond to sexual harassment allegations.

Throughout you will be provided with practical advice and will be encouraged to ask questions and explore issues.
