Helen is an experienced employment solicitor, qualifying in 2007 and spending 9 years specialising in employment law with a large commercial firm in Newcastle.

She has advised and acted for a broad range of clients, from start-up businesses to multi-national public limited companies, across a number of sectors including technology, education and construction. She has acted in Employment Tribunal cases involving claims of unfair dismissal, whistleblowing, discrimination, TUPE transfers and contractual disputes. She has supported employers through a number of disciplinary and grievance matters, and provided day to day advice on statutory and contractual obligations.

Helen also specialises in assisting employers with non-contentious matters such as drafting and reviewing employment contracts, policies and procedures. She has advised a number of employers on their TUPE obligations upon the transfer of a business or contract, including working with a number of schools on the employment aspects of conversion to academy status.

She has predominantly acted for employers, but has also achieved successful outcomes for a number of employees finding themselves in dispute with their employer, from agreeing settlement packages to pursuing claims in the Employment Tribunal.
