Séan Garmory

Solicitor

Séan qualified as a solicitor in 2020 and joined Collingwood Legal in 2023.

He completed his law degree at Newcastle University and Legal Practice Course at Northumbria University.

Whilst completing his degree, Séan spent a number of years working as a Human Resources advisor and then as a paralegal in-house at a large insurance intermediary. After finishing his LPC he worked as a trainee solicitor in this in-house role. Following his qualification as a so-licitor, Séan made the move from in-house to private practice.

Séan has a wide experience in supporting clients deal with both contentious and non-contentious employment matters. He has acted for a range of clients including individuals, small and large businesses, charities and schools. Having worked in both an in-house legal team and in Human Resources, Séan has a keen commercial awareness and the ability to approach matters “from a client’s perspective”.

Experience

Examples of Séan’s experience includes:

  • Acting in complex employment tribunal cases (including unfair dismissal, whistleblowing and discrimination matters).
  • Tribunal advocacy at both public and private preliminary hearings.
  • Drafting employment contracts, staff handbooks, policies and procedures in line with the latest legislative requirements and bespoke client requirements.
  • Supporting clients with day-to-day business and Human Resources management such as handling performance management, disciplinary, absence management and grievance processes.
  • Providing guidance for clients undergoing both individual and collective redundancy processes and TUPE consultations.
  • Supporting clients in regard to employment data protection queries. This includes complying with subject access requests, handling data breaches, drafting privacy no-tices and advising on other issues and the necessary steps clients must take.

Outside of work

Séan is a lover of live music (and is not afraid to accept that he loves pop music). To balance out the number of gigs he attends, Séan also is a regular gym-goer. He mainly focuses on his athletics, and he has sprinted competitively in numerous northern and national athletics leagues.
